Kumbha Mela 2013
A spiritual pilgrimage led by Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Spiritual Head

Every 12 years for millennia, the time returns when the planets, constellations, and other celestial bodies are perfectly aligned, creating a powerful vortex of spiritual energy at the confluence of three holy rivers in Allahabad, India. This energy is further intensified by the collective consciousness of saints and sages, and pilgrims, who gather here with a single shared intention: inner healing and lasting positive change.

While the interplay of the forces of light and darkness brings about change – both within and outside us – our intentions, when put into practice at the right time and in the right manner, are a powerful influence or antidote.
Hear more about how we can use Kumbha Mela as an opportunity to change the course of our destiny and the destiny of the planet – and how you can take part.

Renowned mathematicians of Vedic culture viewed 108 as a number of the wholeness of existence. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of ritual significance. It is also the number of stitches on a baseball… smiles.

Dr. Schanz’s Journey into Holistic Health
I came to the counseling profession after a fulfilling career in corporate America. Wanting to dedicate my life to diminishing the toll that stress was taking on my friends and neighbors, I went back to school. I received my Ph.D. in counseling from the University of North Texas and began my private practice in North Dallas in 1994. Initially I could only offer traditional psychotherapy in individual, couple and group therapy formats, because that was what I knew. Those years were an incredible learning laboratory that allowed me to deepen my understanding psychopathology from the modern western medical approach.
Having been born of military parents stationed in the Panama Canal Zone and traveled extensively around the world, I was culturally initiated into global perspectives on health, healing and family dynamics. Seeing both the strengths and weaknesses of western cognitive/behavioral methods and medications, I continued to search for better solutions.
In 2003, my own health crisis changed my personal and professional life forever. Having been told that I had an incurable, degenerative kidney disease that would eventually destroy my kidneys, I went searching for alternative solutions. Through the unexpected serendipity that we all experience when in crisis, I found an energy treatment called BodyTalktm. Within three months of this therapy, my lab results had improved to almost normal ranges. Within six months my body was healed and my clinical studies verified the cure.
After this miraculous result, I began to study BodyTalktm and energy healing so that I could provide the same healing to my clients. During my studies of energy treatments, I discovered another invaluable tool called Thought Field Therapy. Astoundingly, this modality had been around for twenty years! It was “miraculously” effective for treating psychological problems (80% of the time), yet had I never heard of it! Of course, I added this to my specialties.
Next came my introduction to yoga science, Ayurveda and the science of breath. Here I found the scientific basis for all of the energy healing techniques that I had mastered. Just as the river merges into the ocean, all my therapies merged into the ocean of Ayurveda. No longer could I define my work by trademarked names, for as mighty and wonderful as they are in isolation, when they are combined in systematic order, their sum is much more powerful than any single part/therapy.
To me, Ayurveda is the mother of integrative medicine and my Combined Therapy Program is my personal culmination of all that I have learned. I am so grateful to all of my instructors and professors who greatly contributed key parts to my lifelong quest as a therapist and counselor.

We will warm up with a partner to live Sitar Music, experience counter balances, basics of flight, therapeutic and acrobatic routines.
Workshop guided by Leanne Rogers, assisted by Leonardo Nieto Joly.
Leanne:
A Texas native, I have been living in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for the past 5 years. I have been practicing yoga for over six years and have been teaching ever since my return from India in 2008. Partner yoga found its way to my life and it was an instant match. There is so much joy and laughter while practicing with a partner that teaching it became automatic. The most enjoyable part of sharing this practice and style of playing with anybody – experienced yogi to complete beginner – is the complete joy and awe experienced by them as they find themselves upside down, sideways, or balancing someone on their feet!!
Leonardo:
Leonardo was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to a French mother and Mexican dad. At the young age of 14 he was drawn to go to India where he lived and studied Kundalini Yoga & Music. His passion became the sitar and has given concerts and recitals throughout Mexico. He is an amazing soul of peace and light.

You will learn to use simple inquiry techniques to identify and challenge the thoughts and beliefs that are driving your negative reactions and feelings.
Stress and unhappiness are just warning signals telling you that your thoughts and beliefs are not in harmony with the world. When you feel distressed and unhappy your beliefs about who you are, your expectations of others and the world are in conflict with what is. Once you clarify the discrepancies between your thoughts and your actual experience, you will see how your own unconscious inner voice is creating your misery. YOU have the power to change your thoughts, beliefs, and expectations. You can be in harmony with what is – TODAY.
YOU CAN BE HAPPY NOW.
Stop criticizing yourself and enjoy the blessings in your life. Give yourself the gifts of gratitude and compassion. Come and join Anne Schanz, Ph.D. as she begins a four week crash course in self acceptance.
Understand where your negative beliefs come from and let them go. Begin your journey to compassion for yourself and others today.

Learn about or enhance your knowledge of how this practice may open up your meridians – the channels imbedded in our connective tissue that correlate with the promotion of healthy liver, gall bladder, kidney, bladder, intestine, lung and heart functioning. This practice is available to practitioners of all levels and can be safe and beneficial for folks with back, hip or shoulder pain or injuries. Continuing education credits will be offered for Yoga Alliance Registered teachers.

What is Enlightenment?
- Saturday, Nov 3rd
- 1-3 pm
The workshop will be led by Jordan Shafer
This will be a workshop on what enlightenment is from a Vedanta point of view. It will cover how enlightenment is knowledge, not emotion, along with the three stages of enlightmentment. The practical use of enlightment in everyday life will be included. Questions and group participation will be invited. A guided meditation designed to experience your whole and complete limitless awareness will be included in the workshop.
Vedanta is a profound body of knowledge on the nature of reality based in the Upanishads, which are Sanskrit text and part of the Hindu scriptures. As such, it is a proven method of Self realization and a means of Self knowledge, the purpose of which is to erase ignorance of one’s true nature, the Self. It is the desire of all people to be free of limitation and only by understanding that one is the Self can this desire be realized.
Jordan Shafer
Jordan Shafer is a licensed professional counselor with a masters degree in Counseling and Development who helps people unite Western psychology with ancient traditions to enhance results. In his private practice, Jordan has created a unique combination of three counseling approaches, Nondual Wisdom, Focusing and EMDR, that are collectively very different from traditional mental health counseling. This approach to emotional well-being is one which people are finding very beneficial.
Jordan has been a serious student of spirituality for the past six years having done an in-depth study of the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now, and Michael Brown, The Presence Process. He has also attended workshops and intensives with Eckhart Tolle, Pamela Wilson, Adyashanti and Francis Lucille (Western “Direct Path” teachers) to experience their presence and learn from them directly. Currently, he is delving into the teachings of Vedanta, an Eastern “means of knowledge”, under the guidance of James Swartz www.shiningworld.com. He is finding Vedanta to be the foundation from which all the other teachings arise and the clearest most direct path to freedom and liberation from the limited self.

In this workshop, we will investigate some practices that will help us to stay aligned with our most elevated intentions and help us begin to discover the ultimate reality that happiness is found within and not as a result of external situations and things. Budakon Workshop with Cameron Shayne
- Saturday, January 20, 2007
- 6:30 – 8:30 PM
The Physical Practice
The Budokon physical practice draws upon ancient and modern yogic and martial arts styles. The foundation of the budokon physical practice is precision, alignment and zen mind. All Budokon techniques are designed to explore the bodies full range of motion. The practice dances between agility, control, speed, power, balance & flow. The physical practice is divided into two themes: The Budokon Yogic Series, and the Budo Series. Both themes constantly draw from and depend on each other. The Budokon Yogic series was heavily influenced by Iyangar and Ashtanga yogic techniques and alignment. The focus is on control, calm, power and precision. These techniques are uniquely different from traditional hatha in the sense that they not only work to improve range of motion and strength, but they also explore the bodies ability to sustain another persons body weight as well. The Budokon Budo series is a combination of standing and ground techniques drawn primarily from Okinawan Karate, Gracie jiu-jitsu, and Olympic style Taekwondo. The objective of this series is to teach agility, power, focus and flow in the body and mind.
The Zen Practice
The Budokon Zen practice is seated meditation. Zen is about single minded living. Zen is about freedom from our own ideas. This practice is the foundation of Budokon and weaves its way through everything we do.
