Our Philosophy
As the first donations based yoga studio in Texas, we believe everyone is entitled to the benefits of this sacred practice. Our yoga teachings are based on
the ancient wisdom set out by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras eightfold path. These eight limbs (steps) act as guidelines on how to live a peaceful
and purposeful life.
1) Yamas
These are restraints deal with the ethical standards and integrity on how we relate to the world.
Ahimsa: nonviolence/non harming
Satya: truthfulness
Asteya: non stealing
Brahmacharya: moderation
Aparigraha: non possessiveness
2) Niyamas
These observances deal with the standards and integrity on how we relate to ourselves.
Saucha: cleanliness/purity
Samtosa: contentment/happiness
Tapas: heat/spiritual austerities/self discipline
Svadhyaya: study of self and sacred scriptures
Isvara pranidhana: surrender to Divine
3) Asana
The postures in yoga that are meant to keep the body healthy cultivate concentration and discipline honoring the body as a temple for spiritual growth.
4) Pranayama
Breath regulation and control designed to provide the connection between the breath, the mind, and the emotions. These first four limbs of yoga concentrate on refining our character, gaining mastery over the body, and developing an energetic awareness of ourselves, all of which prepares us for the following 4 limbs which deals with the senses, the mind, and attaining a higher state of consciousness/awareness.
5) Pratyahara
The withdrawal of the senses in a conscious effort to draw our awareness away from the external world and direct the attention internally.
6) Dharana
Cultivating concentration helps us deal with the distractions of the mind and prepares us for meditation.
7) Dhyana
Meditation or contemplation
8) Samadhi
Ecstasy/bliss/enlightenment through the realization of the profound interconnectedness to the Divine and all living things.
